Two Polish yachts concluded voyage through North West Passage on 100 Anniversary

s/y "Nekton" and s/y "Stary" sailing side by side since Aug.8th/06 when they met each other at
Disko Is. (Greenland) followed through Pond Inlet, Bellot Str., Gjoa Haven, Cambridge Bay, Tuktoyaktuk
and Cross Is.
They were reported on Sept. 17/06 to anchor past Pt. Hope to avoid 45kn storm at Chukchi Sea and to do
repairs to "Stary's" rudder as last part from Lisburne Peninsula "Stary" was sailing using
spare tiller as their rudder linkage broke and servo of autopilot got dismounted.
At Barrow they were disallowed to moor at key to take supplies by US authorities as they sent them to either Nome or
Dutch Harbor for visitors clearance some 650 miles away!
Thankfully to action of someone on shore in Barrow (probably ex. "Belvedere" sailor who crossed NW Passage in
1988) that both crews were able to take the fuel but only by means of jerry cans transported on Zodiac without
touching US soil. On that news local eskimos supplied yachts with some salmon fish and prime hind piece of
Caribou meat.
Both yachts after enjoying unusual ice free conditions closed North West Passage passing transverse of
Diomede Is. (Ostrov Ratmanowa) in Bering Strait on Tue. Sept. 19th/06 in the afternoon.
That makes them the first ever passing of Polish registered yachts through North West Passage as in 1984-1988 French registered
"Vagabond II" with polish nationals of Cpt. W. Jacobson, Cpt. L. Maczka and Cpt. J. Kurbiel passed as first Poles through the Passage
sailing Eastward.

(Informacje o użytkowniku) | Ostatnio o rejs jachtu "Stary" pytali mnie przyjaciele, co na codzień chodzą do góry nogami (AU)... :)) Mam nadzieję zobaczyć kiedyś film z tego rejsu lub poczytać książkę.
